Richard Polsky is the author of two well-known books on Andy Warhol and the art market: I Bought Andy Warhol and I Sold Andy Warhol (too soon). The former was featured on NPR (interview with Renee Montagne) and the latter received a full review in the Wall Street Journal (by Alexandra Peers). Previously, he published The Art Market Guide, a series of books which evaluated the investment potential of blue-chip artists. In 1987, his San Francisco gallery Acme Art hosted just the second exhibition of Andy Warhol paintings in the history of the city, which opened only two days before he passed away. Richard Polsky has also participated on art authentication panels, including one sponsored by the State University of New York at Purchase, which covered such diverse artists as Andy Warhol and Jackson Pollock. In addition, Richard Polsky served as the lead expert witness for Peter Brant in the Lindholm vs. Brant trial of the famous Red Elvis painting (which Brant won).
In addition, Richard Polsky is the author of The Art Prophets, which includes a chapter on "Street Art" that features both Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring. He has also written about the financial aspects of each artist's market in The Art Market Guides. |
Rainer CroneRainer Crone is a University Professor emeritus of Contemporary Art and History of Film at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and a specialist in the art of Andy Warhol. He has previously taught at Yale University, the University of California, Berkeley, Columbia University and New York University. He is known for writing the first catalogue raisonné of the artist which was published in July 1970. This was based on the research for his doctorate at the University of Hamburg and and was funded by a two-year doctoral grant from the German government without commercial backing or financial support from any individuals or galleries.
Crone began working with Andy Warhol in 1968, and continued working with Warhol on numerous books and projects until the artist’s death in 1987. Crone's first catalogue raisonné and his PhD thesis are regarded as the first European scholarly response to the work of Andy Warhol. In 1985 Crone, along with was cofounder of the International Associates for Contemporary Art (I.A.C.A). The artists committee of the I.A.C.A included Georg Baselitz, John Baldessari, Richard Hamilton (artist), Jasper Johns, Donald Judd, Anish Kapoor, Alex Katz, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Mapplethorpe, Claes Oldenburg, Robert Rauschenberg, Julian Schnabel, Frank Stella and Richard Sera. Warhol Catalogue Raisonné
This is the first catalogue raisonné the first comprehensive, annotated listing of all known works by Andy Warhol. Rainer Crone worked closely for almost two years with pop artist Andy Warhol to compile this impressive oeuvre. This is the first major German publication showing Warhol’s work. The illustrations are mainly in black and white with 16 color plates. The matt paper mostly gone yellow by time add charm to this wonderful record of an exceptional artist.
